Font - r/r/MaliciousCompliance Posted by u/PeaceN Grease . Let me go? Fine. You'll lose millions. This was around 10yrs ago. I've always been very technical minded & was able to read blueprints, construct complex devices, weld (mig, tig, stick. Certified in fact among other things.) I took a high paying job with a company that made several things for railroads. The job entailed most of my skills, I mentioned above. It was a very small department, in fact there were only 2-3 of us. But we got alo

Font - Fast forward to 3yrs later & the owners buy a much bigger location & move the whole company. As you might expect, several departments get shuffled. Yep, my department gets folded into a completely different department that has no clue what I do. At first, it was fine but it starts to go pear shaped pretty quickly. My new supervisor seemed good at first. But I quickly realize he's a "snake in the grass."

Font - For example, I had to help the prototype department assemble a new, lighter type of mast & ladder house. So I'm printing out issues & suggesting fixes, etc. New supervisor is not happy. He keeps coming over huffing, groaning under his breath, standing over my shoulder, etc. He finally interrupts and asks in an angry voice "How much longer will this take?!" I respond "I have 4 more hours today. And eights hours everyday after that." He looks puzzled. So I explain "This is my department. Th

Font - only one that works in that department, or rather, used to work in that department...lol. Nobody is doing a thing about it. After about 2 weeks, my old department is a disaster. With items being thrown wherever it would fit. Orders had began to miss deadlines and higher-ups wanted answers. Sure enough, I get called into the office where the new supervisor blames me for everything. But wouldn't let me get a word in. Of course, they let me go without any reason or paperwork. The look of rel

Font - relaxed at home for around 2 weeks because I knew I would be getting a call from them. I ignore the first dozen calls. Then I answer: "can you come back & build, train new hires, etc for your department?" "Sure." I say "for $20,000." (Now that may seem like a lot but it wasn't. They made millions from these. So there really was only one option; pay me $20k or lose millions.) Long story short, they went back-and- forth with me but finally conceded.

Human body - I received $20k for two days work & they were helpless. The cherry on top was my new, ex supervisor was fired for being a nitwit & costing the company $20k.

Font - Edit; Wow this popped-off! Thanks for all the awards! Didn't expect that. Sorry it was so long. Some further information- I didn't want to work for them again. It potentially would have been a situation- they used my knowledge & training of the new staff only to terminate me for some made up reason. Which I understand, nobody wants a disgruntled employee. Why $20k? I bounced around on numerous figures but when it came time to say a number over the phone, $20,000 was the number that came o

Font - about my next job. Did I get another job? Yes. As to your questions; could I train 2 new workers in 2 days? Yes. Did I do it well? No. The company wanted it as cheap as possible. So they grabbed two new guys from a different department with zero experience. The best I could do was show them the general process given their limited experience & my limited time. As far as getting all the work up to date; in my dept. the expected prod. was 2 per day. My personal record in one day was 18 befor

Font - MrSpiffenhimer. You should've went bigger. I've always liked the idea of charging like a high end lawyer, $2000-3000/hr 2.7k PeaceNGrease OP. It's funny after I asked $20k I instantly regretted not asking for more. But the "cat was out of the bag". SAA 1.8k Reply Share SysErr 927 Reply Share You mentioned back and forth. After the second time, I would have said "You're wasting my time, it's now $25k, and $5k more every time you call me to renegotiate". Reply Share

Font - yParticle. Was that a one-off or did you keep working there now that your ex-supe was gone? Reply Share 750 PeaceNGrease OP. No they wanted me for just 2 days to catch up on builds and training the new guys they hired. I still left after that & didn't really want to be with the company after that stuff went down. I just took the money and ran. 1.1k Gabe681. Reply Share So you caught up on (4?) weeks of production and trained the new guys in 2 days? And they hired new guys within 2 weeks r

Font - PeaceNGrease OP 2 days ago edited 2 days ago Correct. They pulled two new guys from a different department. My "trick" was- I used jigs. Set it up the first month I was there (when I started the job) It allowed me to crack them out. repeatable results everytime. I simply increased/decreased my speed as needed. Once you know the process, specs that are needed it's just muscle memory & knowing. Did I train the 2 new guys the best I could? No. I had two days. I showed them the basic process.

Font - Skyrock 2 days ago "We are losing millions on this gap, so let's grab a couple of the cheapest hirees we can find and give them some bare-bones training to patch that gap." That management did more than one galaxy- brained move here. 379 Reply Share

Font - Agreeable Pie. 3 days ago I'm surprised, usually managers get promoted for only losing 20k Reply Share 318 mooocowmooo. 3 days ago ... I had a shy manager that once told me it doesn't matter how many times his ideas don't work. The company only cares about the idea that did. 174 His real advice was as long as you can get your boss to like you, you just need to remind them of the one thing you did right. I had no reason to be a kiss a so I quit. Reply Share

Font - imperfectchicken Ooh, my dad did something similar. His new boss didn't like him and let him go. Unfortunately, he was the only person who could certify blueprints. His old boss had to call him to ask for help, and my dad went back as a "consultant". Reply Share 307

They both seemed lost & clueless. Nice guys but just confused about everything. Plus I was zipping through it pretty quick just to get done. On the second day one guy asked "what's a level for?" I shook my head & said "Godspeed boys. Godspeed..." The company commonly flew me out to different states to ver

Font - Careful_Yannu Super curious OP, when I learned welding I was told the names MIG and TIG were being replaced with MAGS and TAGS. Did that get cancelled? ↑ 12 ↓ Reply Share PeaceNGrease OP Different gas mix for better arc & puddle control, envelope the weld better. All good things. Font - 2010 ru-sure. Disappointing story, they lost nothing. You sold yourself short. You went back for 10,000 a day for 2 days for something as you stated they make millions on.
